Big Dream, Small Budget
Creating that dream lifestyle home on a limited budget can be a challenge, but one we successfully overcame at Runciman Road.
Our clients, a young couple, had recently purchased the site which included a basic converted garage house with two bedrooms. Their brief was to create a family home that would last the years, and to do so within a restricted budget.
They were reticent to demolish and rebuild as the existing house offered valuable space and was in suitable condition. Therefore, the solution we developed was to extend a portion of the existing, sloping roofline, incorporating it into a new two storey addition to the north. This would take advantage of the sunny northerly and the lovely views into the native bush. The choice of materials and the very simple form of the building allowed us to meet the client’s tight budget.
This would extend accomodation at the house, creating the room needed for family life, while taking advantage of the existing structure. This orientation also took advantage of the sunny northerly aspect of the property with it's extensive native bush outlook.
The choice of building materials and the very simple form of the building also allowed us to meet the client’s budget, and meet the brief to create a lasting family home.
- Designed family home incorporating an existing structure.
- Budget constraints considered when selecting building materials.
The finished house blends in with its bushland setting. Natural timber and iron create a home which becomes a part of this setting rather than an intrusion.
